The Photo of the Lancaster You have us...Dear Sir, <br /><br />The Photo of the Lancaster You have used is NF992 KC-B for Beer which was flown by my Relation F/O IS Ross RAAF S/N 18839, and was shot down with his Aircrew flying it to Bergen Norway on 12 January 1945. He was flying his 71st Operation, and had been Operational without Rest since January 1944. He operated with 57 RAF Squadron and 617 RAF Squadron. He was shot down, ditched safely and was later strafed and killed, along with His Aircrew after An Airborne Lifeboat was dropped for them. He was very Good Friends with Les Munro RNZAF,Fred Watts and Jimmy Castagnola, as well as Opening the batting with Ross Stanford RAAF during Squadron and Group Cricket Matches. Ians Father served in the AIF in the Great War and was seriously wounded in 1917, he died of those wounds in 1928, when Ian was aged only 8.<br /><br />Is there ANY chance I can get You to Email me a copy of B-Beer (or as Ian called it when it played up, B- Bugger it!) - PLEASE. In the Great War we had 3 serve, 2 were seriously Wounded (both Brothers) and 1 Succumbed to His wounds in 1926, the other in 1928. The third, a Cousin joined the RAN in 1925 and with another Relation who was the RAAF Seaplane Pilot was killed in 1941 when HMAS Sydney was sunk with all hands.<br /><br />The One survivor served with the RAF from 1938 to 1974, he Completed 175 Operations on Blenheims (113 RAF Squadron),Kittyhawks and Mustangs (Mainly Middle East Includ Greece and Crete and Italy). He was awarded the DFC,DFM and the AFC.His last job was delivering Lightning Fighter Jets to the Saudi Air Force. His also gone now.
